We know the climate crisis is real and plastic pollution is one of the most urgent environmental issues of this decade, so taking steps to reverse its impact becomes the responsibility of everyone living on this planet. At sk*p, we are climate optimists and, in growing our community, we have become a powerful movement that will have a real impact in 2022 and beyond. Let’s do this together.

Starting with the basics, we’ve narrowed it down to 5 ways you can reduce your carbon footprint and feel better (self-care is a must).

First make the switch to a cleaner brand of hair and body care products like sk*p, with less impactful packaging—a.k.a. BeautyCarton. Each ingredient is sourced carefully and formulas are created to suit all hair and skin types. Plus, rest assured that our cartons won’t sit in a landfill for 400+ years…sk*p the plastics!

Next…this is the year to take-action and give back! If you don’t already have a volunteer gig then get involved in organizations that need help. Or find whatever it is you want to change in the world and make it happen. Seek out a friend or mentor to help get you started and be the change you want to see.

“The climate crisis has already been solved. We already have all the facts and solutions. All we have to do is to wake up and change.”

- Greta Thunberg

Lastly, commit to being a conscious consumer by choosing brands that care about the lifecycle of their products. Here are 3 brands we love that make everyday essentials to help reduce waste:

Beeswrap

Beeswrap.com

This genius B Corp certified brand makes flexible reusable food wrap made of GOTS certified organic cotton, coated with natural properties like responsibly sourced beeswax or plant-based wax. They also give back to 1% for the Planet and support The Bee Cause Project. You can cut it, mold and shape it as needed and just imagine how many tons of plastic could be diverted from reaching our oceans if everyone chose this alternative?

Gosili

Gosili.com

Out with the plastic straws. We instantly loved this brand’s motto: waste less. Their multi-length super bendy silicone straws are nontoxic—BPA, BPS, phthalate, PVC, and lead free—and made with 100% European-grade platinum silicone, which matters when it comes to safety. They come in colorful compact travel cases for on-the-go use and, when they wear out, GoSili will recycle them. They also make silicone tumblers in fun sk*p colors. Give em’ a try.

Stasher Bag

Stasherbag.com

Adios plastic storage baggies…when Kat Nouri produced the world’s first patented, self-sealing platinum silicone storage bag (a.k.a. stasher), life got a whole lot greener. Her colorful and easy to clean bags have prevented over a billion single-use plastic bags from entering our oceans and landfills. Plus, they give back—a portion of every stasher bag sold goes to support nonprofits like Surfrider Foundation and 5 Gyres. We recommend buying one of their starter kits so you can sample an assortment of colors and sizes.

Final Thought: Find ways to reuse and repurpose what you already have and STOP buying more—overconsumption is so 2021! But never feel guilted or shamed for not doing enough because every purchase you make has and does make a difference. Join our community, buy sk*p and tell others about it too. This will always be a welcoming space for you to share ideas and be inspired. Wow! What we can accomplish together.
